Reflection 3

I am finishing up with recording my demos and have made a meeting date with a producer. I ended up throwing out my original third song and wrote a completely new one that I feel fits the message of my EP a lot better. I have also run into obstacles with finding a producer as the producer I originally reached out to was bad at responding in a timely manner. At this point in the school year there are a lot of performances and trips so that has slowed me down more than I have liked. Along with the producers being unreliable and switching out my songs, I am more behind than I thought I would be by this point. To combat this, I have chosen to write an addendum in which I'd focus on only releasing a single instead of trying to release all three songs. Not only will this relieve a lot of stress but it is smarter in terms of marketing for my EP.  I have met with my producer and we've talked about a timeline for my single so the track should be 85% complete by the time of Senior Project presentations. I've also met with my mentor in terms of marketing so I am preparing for the marketing stage while still in the producing stage; which will catch me up in my project.

When I reached out to Josh and sent him my demos, he said he'd be interested in working with me! He liked my demos and we discussed what I wanted exactly in terms of production. By the end of our conversation we had come up with a meeting date which was March 4th.

Production

Meeting Josh Hansen

Josh Hansen is the producer and band member of The Color Wild, a Sacramento band founded in the early 2010's. The Color Wild is an alternative pop synth band that takes inspiration from 80s synth while presenting a more modern pop sound. Josh Hansen produced their latest album "Ramona" and has produced other songs for the Color Wild in previous years.

My mentor Jesse Crosson recommend Josh to me after I expressed that I was looking for a producer. I reached out to Josh and after hearing my demos he was excited to be working with me. We had a phone call discussing my vision for the EP before getting to work. We discussed different elements in other songs that I liked, artists that I wanted to sound like and started form there.

The only picture I got from our session

The Red Door

Mix 1

For the track that you hear, Josh tuned all of the vocal tracks, added reverb, panning, synths, bass and cleaned all of the string tracks that I provided in my demo.

This is the first mix that Josh sent me. After listening to it I understood the direction that he was taking and was really on board with it. I thought that with some volume and timing tweaks it would be perfect.

This was the mix Josh sent me after our session! We worked out the timing and volume issues. I also had him turn up the bass and synths.

Final Mix

This isn't the final mix but this is the closest mix you will hear to the song that gets released! There are still some small volume things I'd like to perfect.
