Uploading and Marketing

Reflection 4

As my senior project comes to a close, I feel very fulfilled in all of the things I’ve accomplished. Though I had to change my original goals, I feel that the new goals I wrote and completed for myself will put me in a better position marketing wise. I learned a lot of my marketing tactics from Jesse Cannon on YouTube who creates content about music marketing. Through him I made my social media platforms more professional and made content according to what he suggested. As I am now in the marketing process of my EP, I am finding it difficult to keep up with creating content. My goal was to upload a video on Tik Tok everyday and to post on Instagram every 3 days. However, with school I found that to be something very difficult to achieve. To help I recorded multiple videos in advance so that days I couldn't record I would have a video ready to go. I am very happy with my current producer and as of April 16, 2023 we are getting into the final stages of perfecting my single The Red Door will be releasing sometime in late May. I am very thankful for everyone who has helped me throughout my music making process and am thankful for my senior experienced teachers for giving me the opportunity to create a project like this. I can successfully say that I am an independent artist!

Communication & Final Evaluation

The notes that I took were from a meeting that I had with my mentor Jesse Crosson about how I should go about marketing. He suggested I use the waterfall technique were I release singles until I had enough to build an EP at the end. In the text conversation between Josh and I, you can see me communicating that this is the technique I wished to use with our project.

 MARKETING

Most artists finish their song long before they start marketing it. However, for times sake I started marketing my song before production was finished. During this stage I was also researching the best marketing techniques and doing my research for the actual uploading process.

What I should post!

How to pitch to playlists!

My mentor recommended that I watch Jesse Cannon to answer any of my marketing questions! He uploads YouTube content about how to market your music and how to get on major playlists! After watching some of his videos I edited my social medias to be more professional looking. I also started frequently uploading content to Tik Tok and Instagram to gain a following for my EP! You'll see that my social media tag is "starrofficial" and this is because Star is my stage name!

EP Photoshoot

One of the finishing touches of my project was  the visual elements of the music I was writing. My peer Kii Matis who is a junior at Natomas Charter. Kid and I went back to my childhood neighborhood to take the pictures.

Uploading

My mentor recommended that I use Distrokid to upload my music because it's easy to use and can serve a lot of functions. Through Distrokid you can upload to every music streaming service, set up your Spotify Artist account, set your release date and put in all of the information for your song. It's the cheapest way to upload your music as well.
